One of the most sought after blue cruise destinations in Croatia are the Pakleni or Paklinski islands. A popular place to visit is the bay of Palmizana – a well protect yacht marina. There you can find a sandy beach and restaurants. Other than Palmizana, there are two other settlements; namely Momica Polje and Vlaka. The islands are visited by yacht owners and charters since the region offers various peaceful coves – ideal for diving, under water fishing, swimming and other water sports activities.
The islands have been inhabited since the Illyrian era. The name comes from melted pine resin which as used for coating vessels. The largest island named after the Sv. Kliment (St. Clement) chapel in the 15th Century – devoted to the saint, is Veli Otok; or called the “Big Island”. An inscription from the battle of Vis in 1866 can be seen when it was reconstructed then.
